Today was a really amazing day, however I am going to start this post on a sad note.
On the 3rd of February at around 6:00 in the morning, my phone got stolen. Jada and I were with two of our friends (Jonathan and Gerald) at a club along the beachside when someone sneakily went into my bag and stole my phone.
This is actually something I am sadly used too as two weeks into moving to London, my phone was also stolen…. so I guess it only natural for my phone to be stolen two weeks into moving to Barcelona.
Anyways I decided to mention this for two reasons. The first reason being to simply warn you. Make sure to keep your stuff safe and when you feel like you are in a bit of a dodgy area, keep your bag directly in front of you. Just be aware of things like this happening to you and hopefully the same thing wont happen to you.
The second reason being that this day was really amazing and this context was needed for what we did in the morning… so lets get straight into it.
We started off our morning but blasting some music on our speakers and getting ready for the day. Today was going to be 22 degrees which meant it was time to bring our the summer dresses.
Once we were ready we made our way to the Apple Store where I bought myself a new phone, this was very painful indeed… especially as a struggling student. But being in a foreign country that I don’t know that well yet, I needed to have a phone.
Once I had chosen what phone I wanted to get, we finally got back outside into the beautiful sun. Right outside the apple store is Placa de Catalunya and which is absolutely stunning, and even more so when the sun is shining.
After taking a photoshoot, meeting a strange yet kind man dressed in white and being chased by a group of pigeons we realised that we were starving and needed to eat something.
We headed towards Plaza de Catalunya to find somewhere nice to eat. The streets were full of people, which I can assume was due to the beautiful weather. The restaurants at the sides of the roads had set up tables and chairs in the centre of the street. One restaurant caught our eye in particular as it had cocktails in massive pint glasses… 1L cocktail? yes please? I think it was well deserved.
The restaurant had a deal; two tapas plates and a meal (Paella, Pasta or Pizza) for €10. How could we resist.. such an amazing deal.
For the two tapas plates I got traditional Spanish omelet and teriyaki chicken wings, Jada also got the omelet as well as aioli squid. The tapas in general was all very yummy and we definitely did enjoy it, however we could see why they were doing a deal. It was very simple and very small.
For the bigger dish I decided to get Paella, at this point I had not yet tried Paella, so I thought why not give it a go. The more well known paella dish is with seafood however I decided to get a chicken one. Jada got pasta carbonara.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Paella, the flavour of the rice was really delicious. I really love risotto and I would say its pretty similar to that, except the rice is a bit harder. I will definitely be getting it again and will soon try the seafood one.
Oh and I almost forgot, for the 1L cocktail we got blue mojito, which I had never heard of before… but yummy!
After eating we wondered around and found ourselves at Placa Reial where we found a phone shop and I bought a case and screen protector.
Considering the weather was still so beautiful, we decided to walk the long way home and walk past the docs.
After going shopping for some snacks and some Sangria and then chilling at home for a while, we finished off the perfect day by going to the beach, Barceloneta. This was the first time we had been to the beach and it was around 10:00 at night which meant there was hardly anyone there.
We bought a blanket and picnic with us, some sandwiches, some snacks and of course some sangria. We sat there for hours just talking and listening to the calming sound of the waves.
As I was sat at the beach in a shirt at 1:00 in the morning, I couldn’t help but think about how lucky I am and how this would be my life for the next 5 months and maybe more. It feels like a very long yet very real holiday and I couldn’t be any luckier.

My phone may have gotten stolen, but Barcelona I still love you.
